Player Equipment

Required Equipment

All participants in the St. Louis Park Hockey Association are required to have a full set of ice hockey equipment. Ensuring each player has equipment that fits well and properly protects them is critical to having fun and gaining confidence while on the ice.

How to get equipment

There are many ways to get hockey gear: buying at retail, buying online, buying used, or borrowing from friends. Below are some options for obtaining gear at a reduced cost.

Little Wild Learn to Play

Recommended for new players.

For less than $200 you receive a full set of hockey equipment fitted to the player at Pure Hockey, plus four one-hour on-ice sessions in September led by Minnesota Hockey.

Registration opens late spring, most recently mid-May.

Baseline skating skills required.

Lettermen Sports + Loot

Recommended for all skaters.

Lettermen offers 20% cash back on purchases online or in-store through their loyalty program. First-year players who receive the SLPHA Rookie Camp equipment voucher receive additional cash back during their first year, often making Lettermen the lowest-cost retailer.

Dick's Gear Bundles

For new/replacement gear.

Dick's has player CCM and Bauer packages with shoulder pads, elbow pads, breezers, shin pads, and gloves for 20-25% off retail. Useful when looking to upgrade a full set and you already know the sizes required. Sizing is customizable by item.

SLPHA Mite Rental Program

For new players.

Mites and HP 6U/8U skaters living in St. Louis Park can rent gear for the winter hockey season (excluding skates, stick, cup). This is a great option for families who want to try hockey before fully committing.

Hanus Sports Skate Rental

For fast-growing kids.

Hanus Sports has rental program for new and used skates. During the lease you can swap sizes as needed, and at the end purchase the leased skates outright if you wish.

Also a full-service shop that offers on of the best skate sharpenings in the metro.

Play it Again Sports

For used gear.

Play It Again Sports is a chain store that buys and sells used and new sporting goods. They try to keep a forty–sixty split between used and new equipment respectively.
