Free Gear Program

Hanus Sports and SLP Hockey have partnered to provide each “new to USA Hockey” Mite/U8 player with a free set of hockey gear to use for the season. Similar to the rental program, this is open to SLPHA, or SLP-based Hopkins Park players.

Hanus Sports has been properly fitting hockey gear for players in the western suburbs for decades. It can be your one stop shop for everything on the list, or you can choose to purchase any necessary items from other retailers.

Equipment provided in this program is the same pieces that had historically been available in the SLPHA rental program. The main difference is that the program is supported by a full-time retail shop with extended operating hours, making it more flexible and user-friendly than ever before.

The set includes: a helmet with a facemask, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, breezers (hockey pants), and shin pads. This gear may be new or used, and most bags contain a mixture of both. The free gear package does NOT include: a mouth guard, neck guard, athletic supporter, hockey stick, or hockey skates.

Following the end of the season, you can keep the gear for no additional cost, and use it for summer hockey (and most often for the next season).

Or, if your player has had a growth spurt, or you prefer to try a different sport, return the gear to Hanus Sports before April 15th and your deposit will be refunded -- making the set of equipment free for the season.

Eligibility: All registered players that are in their 1st year organized hockey.

Cost: $150 deposit (plus tax)

Pickup/Return: In-person at Hanus Sports at the intersection of Hwy 101 and Mtka Blvd, ~10 minutes from the heart of SLP.

Process: You will need to complete and bring a registration form to Hanus sports.
