Squirt Program

Cold-forged since 1945. Travel hockey starts here.

St. Louis Parks Squirt Program is the start of traveling hockey for players and families. Full ice 5v5 hockey, tournaments and District 3 League play. The out-of-town tournament is always a highlight! Squirts are primarily made up of players in 4th and 5th grade.

See what it's all about

This is what a Squirt out-of-town tournament weekend looks like — the game, the hotel pool, team dinners, knee hockey in the hallway, pin trading with the other teams. It's one of the moments parents and players remember for years, and it's built into every Squirt season here.

Eligibility: open to all players born between 06/01/2015 - 05/31/2017 that live in and/or attend schools in St. Louis Park.*athletes entering 4th grade with summer 2017 birthdays are also eligible. Please contact the Squirt Coordinator to discuss.

2026-2027 Teams: SLPHA will host Squirt A, B2 & C teams.

Built for the Golden Age of Development

Fourth and fifth grade sits in what USA Hockey's development model calls the "Golden Age of Motor Skill Development" — the window where kids can make extraordinary gains in coordination, body control, and skill acquisition. Our Squirt program is built around that window.

Every practice touches skating (edge work, overspeed, body control, mobility) and puck skills (stick-handling, passing, shooting). Small-area games are built into every session — tight spaces and real pressure develop hockey sense and decision-making faster than open-ice drills. Body contact and team concepts are introduced as the season goes on.

Athletes will receive 105+ hours of on-ice training over the season, including up to 35 full-ice games, 3-4 tournaments, practices, and open pond hockey. An end-of-season tournament in District 3 closes things out.

Skills Coaches: Fortis Academy, SLP Skills staff, Michelle Hedges (skating), and Attitude Goaltending work with every Squirt team — B2 and C included, not just the top group.

Season: Preseason skates start September 1st. Get a jump on the season with our Preseason Development Camp — the same skills staff every SLP team gets, starting from day one.
